My experiences have been the same… out of touch white people who don’t really seem to care about my problems….this last baby I had came with some serious postpartum depression and I felt very hopeless not feeling comfortable with “professional” help…you also can’t confide like an average White American without being judged….in the black community we talk a lot about people not getting proper mental health help cause we see it as taboo….i hear less talk about those who have sought help or want to but can’t cause their doctors can’t relate or they are made to feel judged, alienated, awkward, etc… ESPECIALLY if you’re not big on meds….cause thats about the only thing….in my experience… that they don’t have a problem doing for you.
