Are you #TeamManifesting or #TeamGoalSetting? For the longest time I was a goal setter. I would plan the hell outta things to get what I wanted in life. That’s type A Tessa. After I began my spiritual journey, I turned to the law of attraction and manifesting. Both methods are viable techniques to get the things you want. However, I found that if I combined both methods, I could honor both the human and spiritual sides of me. That was important to me.

Disclaimer. You can’t always get everything you want. Life isn’t fair. You can increase your odds by using both manifesting and goal setting.

Let’s explore manifesting

Manifesting is intentionally creating what you want (or don’t want) in your life. What do I mean? Have you ever had a terrible day and every moment you got you complained about how today is the worst day ever? It seemed the more you spoke about it, the worse your day got?

Let me break down what happened. Your words have power. You have the ability to create from the words you speak. The more you say things the more you pour energy into it. The universe sees that as intent and will say “yes” to what you say. You wanted to have a bad day so…you did.

This “law” doesn’t just happen to things we don’t want. It can happen for the things we do want. What would have happened if you would have said, “this sux, but I’m going to have a good day”? Then all day long you talked about having a good day? Again. The universe would have agreed with you and move to make it happen for you.

Here are 3 tips to help you manifest the good stuff you want in your life.

  1. Be very clear about what you want. The universe will give you a huge side eye if you ask for a promotion at that job that you hate and ask to be happy. Those two requests are opposites. You won’t be happy if you are working at that job. The univerUsing Orgasmic Energy to Manifest Your Lifse won’t manifest that for you.
  2. Don’t ask for money. I know that sounds weird. You don’t really want the money. You want the things that money can provide. Here’s an example. You want a new car because yours is old as dirt. Most people will ask for the money to buy a new car. That’s restricting all the other ways you can receive a new car. Someone can give you a car. Some can loan you a car. You can receive a great rate on a car loan that’s affordable for you. If we are being honest, you don’t really care how you get a new car, you just want a new car.
  3. Believe. You must believe you have the right to whatever you are asking. Do you believe you deserve nice things? A better life? Happiness? It’s also ok to ask for things you want and not need. There is no restriction on the things you can ask for.

One of the problems with manifesting is that most people don’t want to do the pre or post work involved in getting the things they want. I work with health coaches. Many want 6 figure businesses. However, they don’t have any systems or processes in place to support a 6 figure business. They have work to do. That is why I think it’s important to discuss goal setting.

What about goal setting?

Goal setting is the process we take to achieve a certain outcome within a particular time frame.  Goal setting is an effective tool to use to get the things you want. There are many different goal setting techniques. Here are two popular methods.

SMART is an acronym that you can use to assist you in goal setting.

Specific (simple, sensible, significant).

Measurable (meaningful, motivating).

Achievable (agreed, attainable).

Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

HARD goals pushes you beyond the status quo. HARD Goals encourages you to take a more active and self-sufficient role in their desired results.

Heartfelt (what is your deep desire)

Animated (be crystal clear)

Required (What can you do today? Next week? In 3 months?)

Difficult (what is your part in making this happen)

The problem I have with ONLY using goal setting that it only focuses on what I can do in my own power. That’s a huge problem for someone whose spirituality is part of their lifestyle. I can’t tell the universe that I want them involved in every area of my life except receiving the things I want.

That’s why I use a combination of manifesting and goal setting. I need the woo woo plus the practical. Let me show you how this works in all three scenarios.

I decided to move up in the company I work for. I want a new position, title and raise.

Manifest Only

I write down what I want on a piece of paper. I am clear. I can see it in my head. I know I deserve it. I burn the paper in a full moon ritual. I know it’s mine.

The next day I see an ad at the nearby college for classes that would give me skills for the position I want. I dismiss it because I’m manifesting. They also list the position on the company job board. I don’t apply because I’m manifesting. The universe is just gonna give it to me.

Two weeks later, I’m crying and screaming at the universe because someone else got the position I wanted.

Goal Setting Only

I’ve been planning this career move for the last 6 months. I’ve worked on extra projects and taking the necessary classes to enhance my skills and knowledge.

I’m speeding to the final exam of my certification program. I’m running a little late. I noticed a woman pulled over on the side of the road with a flat tire. It’s the supervisor of the department I desire. I don’t have time to stop so I keep driving.

I completely missed that divine intervention. Stopping to assist her in that time of need could have been the tiebreaker between two well-qualified applicants in a highly competitive job market. Favor isn’t fair. I missed my chance.

Woo Woo + Practical

I write down what I want on a piece of paper. I am clear. I can see it in my head. I know I deserve it. I burn the paper in a full moon ritual. I know it’s mine.

The next day I see an ad at the nearby college for classes that would give me skills for the position I want. I take a hard look at my current skills and what’s needed to be successful in the new position I want. I use the HARD goals method to plan out what I need to do in 6 months to get the job I want.

Six weeks later, I’m speeding to the final exam of my certification program. I’m running a little late. I noticed a woman pulled over on the side of the road with a flat tire. It’s the supervisor of the department I desire. I stop and offer my assistance. She tells me about a new position they are creating that hasn’t been announced yet. She encourages me to apply in 2 weeks and I do

Guess who’s the new VIP of Operations?

What now?
